Portfolio Project Genre #1

 Coming-of-age

The typical audience for coming-of-age films are young kids or teenagers and their ages usually range from 11-19. However, these type of films can also appeal to people in the early adult years.

These films usually contain a protagonist who, within their society, find themselves. This could mean that they find their identities and/or become comfortable in them, they find people who they are comfortable around like friends and family, and/or they grow out of childhood and step into adulthood. This is all presented in ways such as first loves/crushes, drama concering friends or family, or losing their innocence and stepping into a new version of themselves.

Some features of narrative image inside this genre are showing relatable kid-like or teen-like problems that we all have faced in that point of our life. This could include showing the protagonist fighting with their friends, family, or their person of interest. Many movies within this genre often use many warm colors to display the innocent complexity of feelings that kids/teens feel. Marketing for this genre often projects the idea of lots of emotion and displays drama with the image of a young individual facing all of this.

Two films/TV productions that represent this genre are 'Ladybird' and 'Didi'.
